Kate's Product Picks: Illegal Length

Kate's Product Picks: Illegal Length

I have found a new favorite mascara that could leave your friends with lash envy!

The day after I posted my original blog entry on mascara, I found a new favorite at the CVS on K Street where I stopped to pick up another tube of Maybelline Falsies Black Drama.

If you crave a mascara that gives you the look of false lashes, Maybelline's Illegal Length is the product for you! I loved this mascara from the first time I swiped it across my lashes, but wanted to test it out for a whole month before revealing my review.

Sacramento City Council looks at pension reform to close deficit

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento City Council said they support pension changes for firefighters and police at Tuesday night's council meeting.

The council said city employees should contribute more to their pensions.

The city's budget is facing an expected $18 million deficit for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. City Manager John Shirey said the deficit is due to declining property tax revenue and contracted employee raises. Two weeks ago, Shirey proposed to cut nearly 300 full-time equivalent positions, which includes letting go more than 100 firefighter and police positions.

Council members also heard budget proposals from firefighter, police officers and parks & recreation employees at the meeting.

Lathrop seniors ordered to pay for prank in order to walk

LATHROP, CA - Eight seniors may not be able to walk at their high school graduation unless pay for cleaning fees after they pulled a senior prank.

Last Thursday, the seniors gathered in the quad area to do some redecorating with spray paint, streamers and duck tape to leave a lasting impression at their school. It was all meant as a joke.

"What I want people to know is that we didn't mean to vandalize the school, that was not our purpose," senior Alayna Asuncion said.

However, school administrators missed the punch line. The mess forced the school to cancel Friday's senior rally. Administrators said it cost $1,300 to clean up the mess; a responsibility the school believes belongs to the students. Principal Bob Wallace wants each student to pay $126.50 to cover the cleaning costs.

New documents detail failed Sacramento arena negotiations

SACRAMENTO, CA - Emails posted online by blog ranSACkedmedia show Kings owners the Maloof Family, were asking for things in the arena deal that the NBA told them not to.

The emails detailed negotiations between the NBA and George Maloof.

One email, dated Feb. 29, starts with George Maloof listing items in the arena deal that concerned the owners: the Kings not wanting to put down collateral, something that would guarantee their loan if they default; not wanting to pay game day expenses nor municipal expenses and wanting to reduce the lease from 30 years to 15 years.

The items that the Maloof Family outlined baffled Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson one month ago in New York City.

"They would execute me in Sacramento if I came back with a deal with no collateral," Johnson said during a press conference.

In the emails, Harvey Benjamin, a league executive negotiating on behalf of the Kings, responded to Maloof's concerns.

Sacramento Metro Fire demos how NOT to put out a grease fire

Sacramento Metro Fire demos how NOT to put out a grease fire

By Katie Garner

Sacramento Metro Fire successfully gave a live fire demonstration on the dangers and proper extinguishing techniques for a stovetop grease fire today.

Using water isn’t one of them. The first photo shows a few seconds after the grease in a pot ignited. The second photo shows a glass of water, attached to a stick, pouring water onto the fire and the fire explosively grows. Officials started a grease fire inside of the Rancho Cordova Inn, about to be demolished. These kinds of fires are not to be put out by water, but can be by either by covering the engulfed pan with a lid or with a dry chemical fire extinguisher.
