SACRAMENTO, CA - Two gay men were attacked in, what police believe is, a hate crime.
According to Sacramento police Sgt. Andrew Pettit, the incident happened at 12:45 a.m. on 15th Street, near H Street, in Midtown.
The two male victims said they were holding hands while walking home when they were confronted by two other men. They said one of the subjects called them a sexually derogatory name.
One of the victims, a 23-year-old man, said he was repeatedly punched and kicked on the ground. The 27-year-old victim said he was pushed to the ground and robbed of his wallet. Both victims said the attackers then grabbed their backpacks and emptied the contents onto the street.
Witnesses called police and said that the suspects fled the area in a black colored SUV. The victims sustained minor injuries.
