SACRAMENTO, CA -- Scientific research suggests that eating foods rich in antioxidants may help prevent dementia and Alzheimer's disease, the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S.

According to an article in Psychology Today, fruits and vegetables rich in color like spinach, blueberries, strawberries and broccoli also tend to have high amounts of antioxidants which combat free radicals in the body.

Coffee and tea also contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds known as flavonoids and protect your brain against aging. People who drink five or more cups of coffee a day are 85 percent less likely to develop Parkinson's disease.

Eating one large meal at the beginning of the day and then eating healthy snacks for the rest of the day can also reduce stress on the mind and body.
